Lancaster 3 – 0 York

Playing for 2 points that would have given either side an overall win in the volleyball the mixed volleyball teams took to the court late on Sunday afternoon in a match that resulted in a convincing win for Lancaster.

A solid performance in the first set from Lancaster set the tone for what was to come as they took the opening set 25-15. The red roses continued in the same vein in the second set, winning 2 points to every point that York got to win the set 25-12. They were helped by an impressive individual performance by their no. 6 whose devastating spikes at the net won a telling number of points for the home side.

Staring a straight sets defeat in the face York needed a response in the third set and they managed to make life much tougher for Lancaster as the start of the third set proved a much tighter contest.

Any hope of getting back into the match quickly dwindled for York however as Lancaster won an incredible 8 points on the spin to lead 14-6. York fought valiantly to prevent the match becoming a procession for Lancaster as they sought to see out the match, getting back to within 2 points of the reds who took the third and ultimately final set 25-23 to secure a straight sets victory.
