Women’s 1sts settle for hockey draw

After a very quiet start from both teams, the game finally came to life towards the end of the first half when York scored the first goal of the match. Lancaster had come close to a goal several times and it seemed to be only a matter of time before we would see another goal, especially with both teams looking so strong in their attack.

The goals soon came for Lancaster when Emma Short took an impressive shot and scored the first well deserved goal. Shortly after, a second followed from Katie Tinsley leaving it at 2-1 to Lancaster. It looked as though Lancaster were on form and would take a win from this match, but York were straight back putting increasing pressure on Lancaster’s defence before finally breaking through and scoring another goal.

The final half an hour then had the teams back and forth up the pitch, both determined in their attacks, but the defence of both teams meant that neither managed to break through and score the vital deciding goal.  The match ended in a draw at 2-2.  It was disappointing for either team to not come away with a win as they had all made some excellent runs and performed so strongly, but both were evenly matched and it was a justified result.
