Lancaster grab handball victory

Saturday evening saw a comfortably busy Sports Hall host the women’s handball competition. An aggressive yet not violent game, with plenty of passion from both teams eager to take the points made for a gripping event.

York opened the scoring almost immediately, with Lancaster responding just as quickly. As handball is very fast-paced and high scoring, it’s difficult to note exactly what was scored when, though the only time York led was following their initial goal. At the end of the first half, Lancaster had the edge, with a score of 9-7 in their favour. Lancaster opened the scoring of the second half, but York responded quickly to shrink the goal deficit to one, taking the score to 10-9. Lancaster’s final goal of the game came in the form of a penalty, taking the score to 13-10 in their favour. York showed no signs of defeat and fought right down to the last seconds of the game, with the match eventually ending 13-11, and Lancaster taking the points.

Whilst I’m still not entirely sure of the rules of handball, it certainly made for an interesting and exciting hour’s viewing – definitely one to keep your eyes open for in Roses 2017!
