Last-second summer getaways

So let’s start with the most obvious kind of holiday for students: a holiday for especially tight budgets. What initially popped into my head when I was considering this type of holiday was a weekend in Edinburgh. Not only does it save you money on flights, but it’s also a city known for landmarks which are  rich with history and picturesque scenery, making it a fun and relaxing trip.

In terms of landmarks, I’d highly suggest visiting Edinburgh Castle, which sits high above the city atop an extinct volcanic plug. It’s one of the most visited attractions in Scotland, making it a place you won’t want to miss out on visiting. The Edinburgh Dungeons are equally exciting and of course there is the famous Edinburgh Zoo. If you search lastminute.com you’ll be able to find Edinburgh holidays for only £200 per person which is amazingly cheap for such a beautiful city.

The above leads me on to discuss the second most obvious kind of holiday for students:  a clubbing holiday. When I think of clubbing holidays, two destinations in particular spring to mind: Magaluf and Zante. Although Ibiza and Aya Napa have amazing reputations they can be incredibly expensive. Magaluf and Zante, on the other hand, are ridiculously cheap.  As well as being close to incredible beaches both resorts provide great drink offers.

Magaluf, for example, offers you a clubbing pass for 25 euros that guarantees you access to five clubs (one of them being a strip club, which weirdly enough I decided not to visit when I was there). Zante also has amazing deals on drink, whether it’s one euro cocktails or 50 cent shots! You really can’t get much cheaper than that. In terms of hotels, both resorts offer a wide selection and aren’t too pricey. If you search hard enough you’ll find a large variety of self-catering apartments for around £300, making your holiday a wallet-friendly one.

Finally, I’ll discuss another incredibly popular type of holiday: the couples’ weekend getaway. As clichéd as it sounds, Paris really is the perfect place to go for couples. Not only is it the city of love (I apologise but that line was too difficult to resist using) but its romantic restaurants can also be pretty cheap provided you look for the right ones. When I searched online the other day, I found the perfect hotel for you loved up students: Hotel Concorde Montparnasse. This four-star hotel is situated right in the heart of the city, giving you a picturesque view of the Eiffel Tower. It’s also near the Notre Dame, the Louvre and a range of garden. These give you the perfect opportunity to visit a bakery, buy some rolls and cakes and have a perfect picnic if you’re feeling particularly romantic and are worried about spending too much.

However, as we all know, no Paris weekend getaway is complete without visiting an authentic French restaurant. In particular, I recommend Le Bistro des Dames. It’s situated in an overgrown tropical garden courtyard and has a set-price menu from 21 euros including both lunch and dinner. Total bargain. If you decide a hotel like this is the hotel for you, you can book both your flights and the hotel for around only £280 each (provided you go at the beginning of September).
