Pinterest: Who should you be following?

Pinterest is not just a place for mums to collect recipes or fitness enthusiasts to share weight-loss inspiration- it’s a great tool to stay up to date with the latest fashion and beauty trends. Since it’s launch in 2010, Pinterest has become home to fashion brands, lifestyle magazines and fashion bloggers. It’s the perfect place for you to curate boards with things that inspire you or that you’d like to have. Using the site you search images through Pinterest, or on the internet, then ‘pin’ them to one of your boards to create a collage of online images, like a virtual pinboard. If you’ve never used Pinterest before, here are some of the top brands, fashion magazines and bloggers you should be keeping an eye on:

Fashion Brands

Jimmy Choo is the place for shoes, shoes and more shoes. Go through Anthropologie’s pins if you’re looking for something a little more lifestyle oriented. High street labels like Zara and Mango have their seasonal lookbooks for you to follow and re-pin from. If your favourite brands don’t have official Pinterest accounts (though most of them will) just type their name into the search box and you’re guaranteed to find thousands of pins from their latest collections.

Fashion magazines

Vogue Magazine’s Pinterest page contains boards like ‘Anna Wintour’s Favourite Images,’ ‘Five Days, Five Looks, One Girl’ and ‘Designers’ which features people from Yves Saint Laurent to Riccardi Tisci of Givenchy. My personal favourites are ‘The Editor’s Eye’ and ‘Beauty’ which feature inspiring editorial images and the latest beauty trends from the runways.

Harper’s Bazaar takes a slightly different approach. Alongside the standard boards with shoes, bags and so on, there are ‘Fall/Winter’ trend boards for designers like Carolina Herrera and boards called ‘Iconic Fashion Moments’ which feature magazine covers with a young Naomi Campbell and photographs of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.

Other magazines with Pinterest boards worth noting are Elle, Nylon and Company.

Fashion bloggers

Contributing editor of Vogue and founder of website ModaOperandi, Lauren Santo Domingo has killer taste when it comes to things like swimwear and vintage fashion. Her ‘Hollywood’ and ‘Portraiture’ boards a worth a look too.

Parisian fashion blogger Garance Doré, longtime trendsetter and recent founder of her own stationary line has boards that ooze elegance and sophistication. ‘Mes Classiques’ and ‘La Parisienne’ are definite favourites.

Kate Arends of lifestyle blog Wit + Delight’s ‘Currently Coveted’ and ‘Seen At Fashion Week’ boards are must-follows. Browse them for minimalist, often pastel inspiration. If body art is more your thing, her ‘Tattoo & Ink’ board is definitely worth a look.

Beauty blog Into The Gloss is great for those with voyeuristic tendencies when it comes to celebrities’ beauty cabinets. On Pinterest, follow along for everything from ‘Backstage Beauty’ to ‘The Products.’ If you’re feeling nostalgic and want a bit of pre-midlife crisis Johnny Depp, there’s even a board for you.

Wendy’s Lookbook – the Pinterest account shares a name with the blog – is fantastic for head to toes outfit co-ordinations. A Los Angeles native, outfits on her ‘Fashion & Style Diary’ board range from casual jeans and t-shirts to full length evening gowns with accessories.

If you’re looking for even more pinners to follow, a great feature Pinterest introduced recently is the ‘pins from’ feature where you can click through to all the other accounts your favourite pinners have been compiling their boards from. Good luck and happy pinning!
