50 Trends of Gray, #3

No ropes or chains could keep us away from bringing you the next lot of trends we’re sure you have been gagging for over the Easter break.

1 & 2. TRENDS: Sports Luxe/LA Beach
These two come hand in hand. The main ‘look’ this summer is laidback, athletic and energetic. Think Malibu beach bar. Bright coloured tees, tank tops and trainers contrasting black shorts and shades are what we are going for. In the hope of hot weather the sportswear edge gives us lightweight materials and, with more money spent of the sports brands day-to-day collections, they present us with an acceptable street look ready for day and night. Must have items are the barrel gym bag, lightweight bomber jacket, neon tees, Ray Ban wayfarers and other items in this article.  Need a start up tip? TK MAXX. After a few laps round there you’ll have bagged yourself some on trend bargains and still have money left over for a Pina Colada in the LA heat (or in MINT Lancaster, which ever is closest).

3. TOPS: Vests

The Marmite of tops. Extreme V’s are a no go. Skinny guys should wear baggier cuts from stores like AMERICAN APPARELL. TOPMAN’s tight vests will suit more athletic builds. Middle man? Stick to tees. Hard to pull off, even harder to put on.

4. BODY: All Over Tan

Our recent vacation may have let the sun go to our heads but you can’t deny a sun kissed complexion over the summer months certainly makes things a little better and puts you in the sunshine spirit. Even if the British weather doesn’t live up to the California heat we are all hoping for. Not jetting off? A secret weekly sunbed will make all the difference. No one will know, except Tanya and Lesley at Sun Station.

5. STYLE TIP: Key Pieces

It’s no good having twenty graphic tees from the high street that you never wear simply because they cost a couple of quid. Think more about your purchases. Buy less, pay more. If done correctly you’ll be cultivating a more capsule wardrobe that lasts longer and makes getting dressed take less time and effort.

6. JACKETS: Lightweight Sport Bombers

Sticking with the big summer trend of sports luxe, a vintage Adidas jacket would be the home run on the fashion field. Either scour stores such as POP BOUTIQUE, sites like EBAY or buy new with JEREMY SCOTT X ADIDAS collections.

7. SHORTS: CK Swim Shorts

With recent trends focusing on prints and bright colours pull back with a classic CK swim short. Keep it black if you want a more classic look or make waves with the Baywatch red. Both found in a selection of lengths at HOUSE OF FRASER. Shorter the better, but keep away from any Speedo style.

8. SOCKS: White Trainer Socks

What with so much colour going on elsewhere a fresh white trainer sock will keep in with the LA trend and show off the new shows. Most local sportswear stores sell my personal favourite PUMA so cheap (ish) you only ever need to wear them once (kind of).

9. TOPS: Basketball Jerseys
In an ideal world we’d all be rummaging through thrift shops in the US finding amazing basketball jerseys for $3. Unfortunately that’s not going to happen to many of us any time soon so we’ll have to stick to (yes yet again) vintage shops like BEST LEEDS to get the latest craze item of the moment. The women’s high street have gone crazy for this and the men’s is soon to follow so get ahead of the game to achieve a style slam dunk.

10. TRAINERS

That may sound very technical but it actual fact it’s just a (buzzword alert) lightweight trainer with padded ankles, mesh panels and a traction grip tread. No, we have no idea either. NEW BALANCE 410 or 420’s and NIKE ELITE’s are our favourite and can be found at ASOS and JD SPORTS for less than £60.
