Lancaster 4-9 York

A superior York side defeated Lancaster comfortably in the mixed lacrosse to take an easy win for White Rose.

Both York and Lancaster Lacrosse clubs have a lot of things in common, both have teams at the bottom of their respective BUCS league; the Men’s 1st team for Lancaster and Women’s 1st team for York. Given the circumstances, the mixed game was expected to be a close call yet some heroics from York’s Chris Menon meant Lancaster struggled the entire game.

The game started with some early dominance from York as they went 3-0 up in the first quarter. The second quarter saw some closer competition as Lancaster fought hard for possession and claimed two points in this quarter to bring the score to 6-2 in York’s favour.

The third quarter saw York break through Lancaster’s defence several times to make the score 8-2 with the game pretty much in the bag. In the fourth quarter and with the game within their grasp, York tested their bench bringing the final score to 9-4, cementing an easy victory for the White Rose.

Lancaster will be disappointed with their efforts, as much was expected of the team before the game.  Positives for them can be taken in the performance of Nicola Swallow, who breached York’s defence a couple of times to score two goals, salvaging some pride for the home side.

York on the other hand will be very happy with their performance as they showcased some great defence and were pretty much in control the entire game.

They will be very pleased with Chris Menon’s performance in dominating the game and kept York in control the whole time. Lancaster’s two late goals came at a time when Menon was on the bench in the fourth quarter.  If Menon has stayed on, the score line could have been alot more embarrassing for the home side.
