Wednesday February 29th sees the opening of “Oportunidad,” Lancaster Marketing student, Anya Rasaiah’s art exhibition.

The Sultan Gallery of Lancaster will exhibit Anya’s work in her first solo show which will run for two months.

The exhibition consists of Anya’s pieces which are a mixture of contemporary aesthetics and are “50% aesthetic, 50% conceptual,” all having a story behind them. Previously her work has been sold for hundreds of pounds in similar shows in Leicester, suggesting a promising reception for her first northern show.

“It would be brilliant if people get to see the show in the two months its running, and even better make it to the opening night for the first look” commented Anya, who has single-handedly secured the exhibit and arranged the event.

The name “oportunidad,” opportunity in Spanish, was selected as a way to describe how Anya made the show happen.

“It was literally making opportunities for myself” she explained, “I’m not an art student but now have my first entire show to myself,  and it’s thanks to the opportunity Usmas Munshi at the Sultan has given me.”

The exhibition will be on show at Munchies Kebab-Grille at The Sultan of Lancaster on Brock Street, and opens at 6pm on Wednesday. All the pieces on show are for sale. If you have any enquiries, you can contact the artist directly at anya.rasaiah@hotmail.co.uk
