Midi skirts go the whole nine yards

For the past couple of seasons, high street shops have been pioneering the midi skirt, and unfortunately they haven’t caught on as much as midi fans would have hoped.
They are just so forgiving! For every shape, size and height there is truly a midi style to suit you. Not only do they hide a multitude of sins, but they can be worked so many different ways- they should be 2012’s new skinny jean if you ask me.

If you’re thinking, “I’m too curvy, short or skirts just aren’t my thing”, then I’m going to try my hardest to convince you that mid way, is the only way.

High waisted midi skirts are great; not only do they lengthen legs for those who claim to be too short, but also create the illusion of a tiny waist. Win, win. Taking this as your basis, a vast selection of different styled outfits can be created from this one staple piece. For example, if you want to keep it chilled out, team a midi skirt with a band t-shirt and pendant for a younger, more ‘Topshop feel,’ or even a wooly jumper for a cool, country chick look. If a classier approach is more your vibe, match it with a ‘peter pan collared top and some smart brogues. Primark limited edition do a charming polka dot sheer shirt for only a tenner, great for any student pocket. Complete the look with some turn down ankle socks or even sheer patterned tights like those from House of Holland (£12).

If you still want to bare a little bit of leg, then the alternative to the midi skirt is a mini and a midi skirt all at once- the mullet skirt. The mullet skirt is shorter at the front but flowing and long at the back. These look great and are bang on trend, but are also brilliant for those of you who want to show off your fabulous legs. River Island have some gorgeous examples in stock in mustard hues and forest greens.
Miss Selfridge also have some beautiful midi dresses at the moment. My favourite is the black and white polka dot one with crochet detailing, which not only would look great with opaque tights for a smart occasion, but would look amazing dressed down at a festival or on holiday with a pair of sandals. Value for money for sure!

The best thing about midi skirts, for me, are they cure any fat day blues, don’t have my mum moaning that my skirt is too short and have the versatility of the wardrobe bestie, the skinny jean. What more could a girl want?
