Pamper yourself silly

Forget about slaving away on the cross-trainer or the days when the only treat your feet would receive is a date with a pumice stone. Those days are long gone. There are some new health and beauty crazes that are hitting the streets of Lancaster.

Firstly there is Zumba, a new exercise class to hit our gyms and ensure for a vigorous workout. The dance originated in Columbia in the 1990s and has appeared here in abundance with everyone talking about it. It is a combination of styles such as meringue and hip hop and will ensure to entertain all with no right or wrong way of doing it. It’s sure to get the party started by learning a few salsa steps and shaking your booty to Ricky Martin. The class is available at the sports centre on campus on either Friday at 6pm or Saturday at 4pm. The cost is £1.80 if you are a gym member and £4 for non members. It is sure to be a laugh and definitely a fitness class not to be missed.

After you have done all that exercise it is now time for some much needed pampering. Allow me to introduce the Garra Rufa fish. Now, when my friend asked me to go and experience these fish nibbling on your feet at first I was a little hesitant, but to my pleasant surprise I really enjoyed it. The thought of schools of fish having a nice snack on your feet doesn’t sound the most relaxing treatment, but I would recommend it to anyone. We went to Giggly Feet in Lancaster and you quickly realise the reasons behind the name choice but after the initial tickle it soon became very pleasant. Not only does it feel nice and relaxing, but it actually works. I was left with soft, rejuvenated soles and as a bonus the owner explained that the fish were only sucking my feet and not biting which did put my mind at ease. In Lancaster, both Giggly Feet and Sun Seekers offer the pedicure for £10 for 15 minutes. Giggly Feet also offer the option for a manicure which is £5 for 10 minutes, so it is definitely worth the experience.

If you fancy treating yourself to something a little more indulgent then pop along to Lancaster House Hotel and make use of the spa where you can be pampered in some unusual ways. For all you chocoholics out there then the Chocolate Heaven treatment is for you. This includes a chocolate exfoliation followed by a chocolate wrap applied by a massage. This treatment lasts 1 hour 15mins and costs £45. They also offer facial treatments, such as the seaweed facial. It helps to rehydrate your skin and is recommended by major beauty editors. The treatment lasts for 1 hour and costs £40. The spa offers 25% off facials on Mondays and 25% off any treatments on Thursdays, making it a little more realistic for a student budget.

All these fitness classes and pamper sessions are situated only 15 minutes away from campus so be sure to treat yourself; you know you’re worth it.
