About this blog

Student politics and activism are integral elements of a vibrant learning environment at any higher education institution. The Lancaster University Students’ Union (LUSU) is an independent organisation representing over 17,000 students at the University.

Like any other democratic system, its effectiveness in representing the interest of the members is highly dependent on their participation.

[pull name=”Plato” title=”The Republic”]Democracy, which is a charming form of government, full of variety and disorder, and dispensing a sort of equality to equals and unequaled alike.[/pull]

This blog is aimed at promoting students’ active participation in the government of student body at the University. The title, ‘Variety and Disorder’, was inspired from a quote by a classical Greek philosopher. In this blog, we will cover the various aspects of student government including its functions, campus elections, members’ representation, elected officers’ duties and performance and other relevant issues.

We encourage healthy discourse and constructive debate on these issues. SCAN readers are welcome to participate in comments or by writing to the editor at scan@lancaster.ac.uk.
